Mary Jones: A Female Poker Champion
We would not doubt it if a number of poker fans know who Mary Jones is. She definitely deserves to be recognized as a female professional poker player after winning a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2006.
Before becoming a successful female professional poker player, Mary Jones was involved with the National Museum of Women in the Arts in the United States. Despite the fact that such work did not involve poker, she already knew during that time that her ultimate dream was to play professional poker as her source of income. Indeed, Mary Jones' determination led her to fulfill her dream of playing professional poker successfully.
Residing in Henderson, Nevada, Mary Jones first participated in a poker tournament when she joined a No Limit Hold'em event at the Mirage Poker Showdown that was part of the fourth season of World Poker Tour on May 13, 2005. She was the twenty-second placer and earned US$2,628.
On September 5, 2005, Mary Jones tried her luck in a No Limit Hold'em event that was conducted by the World Series of Poker for ladies. The tournament was dubbed as Harrah's Las Vegas Poker Tournament wherein this female professional poker player became the ninth placer. She took home the prize money worth US$688.
It was on July 9, 2006 that Mary Jones' skills were really praised. In a No limit Hold'em event for ladies that was conducted during the 37th Annual World Series of Poker, this female professional poker player won her first World Series of Poker bracelet. She also received the cash prize amounting to US$236,094.
In the said event, professional poker players as well as all other poker fans watching the game thought that female poker professional Jennifer Tilly would be the one to win the game. If not, everyone who was watching the game thought that female professional poker player Shawnee Barton would instead emerge as the winner because of her admirable playing technique during that time. Surprisingly, it was Mary Jones who emerged victorious. She did not know how to react as soon as it was announced that she was the latest champion of the World Series of Poker's Ladies Event.
After such triumph, Mary Jones experienced being the first placer once again when she joined a No Limit Hold'em game at the United States Poker Championship tournament on September 26, 2006. The winnings that this female professional poker player was able to receive amounted to US$47,192.
Since then, Mary Jones has been continuously joining poker games conducted by the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour. She has not experienced being a first placer since 2006, nevertheless, she still emerges successful with money finishes.
